Description
Louis Smith, Jonesboro, Tennessee. Beautiful .50 cal. Flintlock Kentucky pistol of the highest quality completed by my Dear friend and mentor, Louis Smith, a few years before his death. Louis, particularly noted for his fine period-style engraving, was considered to be one of the best of the contemporary gun makers and his firearms are rarely offered for sale. This wonderfully slender pistol is 13 in overall length, stocked, of course, in relief and incise-carved curly maple, and the mounts are all German Silver. The 8 1/2″ long, beautifully filed, two-stage, rifled barrel has a single fixed rear sight and a silver fore-sight. The ramrod is of horn-tipped curly maple. Louis was a prolific artisan but made only a handful of pistols during his lifetime and I do not recall ever having seen one for sale. A rare opportunity here to own this example.
